Barbados Community College

The Hospitality Institute is a purpose built facility comprising classrooms, laboratories and a fully operating training hotel (Hotel PomMarine), which is a joint venture between the Government of Barbados and the European Union.

 

This integrated facility was officially opened on February 8, 1997. The main aim of the Hospitality Institute is to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of workers in the Tourism/Hospitality industry through the relevant education and training.

 

The Institute’s motto is “Promoting Excellence in Hospitality and Tourism Through Quality Education, Training and Service.”

The Hospitality Institute achieves its objectives by offering the following programmes:

 

 

 

  • Joint Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism and Hospitality Management with UWI.

  • Associate Degree (Hospitality Studies)

  • Associate Degree (Tourism and Travel)

  • Associate Degree (Culinary Arts)

  • Certificate (General Catering – one year)

  • Certificate (Short course in various subjects)

  • Southern Chef Apprentice Programme in conjunction with the American Culinary Federation, Barbados Vocational Training Board and the Barbados Hotel Tourism Association.

  • Continuing Education courses to the general public.

  • Consultancies, technical assistance and customized training for the industry.

The Institute is also planning a Bachelor’s Degree programme in Culinary Arts. The hospitality industry is central to Barbados’ economy and the Hospitality Institute will continue to support it through the above programmes.
